When I first had this make ahead layered salad I thought it had to be a difficult salad recipe to make. LIttle did I know it was easy! Just a few ingredients and you will have a hit on your hands. Also known as a 24 hour layered salad or 7 layer salad, this is a great recipe if you are in a crunch for time. The ingredients are inexpensive and come together into a delicious salad that your family and guests will love! This recipe is great for picnics or holidays and would go great with my spiced baked ham recipe. This year round salad recipe will be one you hold on to. We have been making it for years.
Ingredients for the salad
The ingredients are simple! Most of the ingredients you could have on hand. Iceberg lettuce, onions, bell pepper, parmesan cheese, frozen peas, mayonnaise, bacon, and sugar. They are all relatively inexpensive and are available at your local grocery store. I am sure you could replace the bacon with some other meat. You can also substitute my ranch dressing recipe for the mayonnaise
Putting the salad together
The make ahead layered salad could not be easier to put together! Start by placing the diced iceberg in the bottom of an appropriately sized bowl. Next, layer the peppers, peas, and any other veggies you may like. Banana peppers, celery, broccoli, etc. Mayonnaise is next followed by onion, bacon, cheese, and sugar. Once the salad has chilled in the fridge for at least a few hours, you can mix the salad and serve.
I have found that this salad is one of the most delicious and simple salads to make. I have served it as a main dish and as a side salad. It goes with so many meals! Burgers, ham, barbecue, and more! Perfect for the summer holidays!
