Say goodbye to dry, bland turkey burgers for good. This simple recipe uses just ground turkey and Italian sausage to create incredibly juicy and flavorful patties in about 25 minutes. The sausage provides all the fat and seasoning needed, making this the easiest way to achieve a delicious burger for a weeknight dinner or backyard cookout.

Here’s how to make the turkey burgers!

What You Will Need:

  • 1 pound of ground turkey
  • 1/2 to 1 pound of Italian sausage or Italian turkey sausage

Why This Italian Sausage Hack Works

We had troubles with turkey burgers ending up as dry as hockey pucks after cooking. The ground sausage has enough fat and seasoning that it keeps the lean turkey from drying out. My family loved them and, just like so many other recipes, we have been making this burger recipe ever since. We don’t have to worry about seasonings. Just like with any other burger, the toppings and variations are endless and they are great grilled!

Blending, Forming, and Cooking the Turkey Burgers

In a bowl big enough to hold the meats and that will give you enough room to work in, combine the Italian sausage and the ground turkey. Form the patties to the size of your liking. Next, cook the burgers until their internal temperature reaches 165 degrees F.

We try to make enough turkey burgers for lunch the next day. They really hold up well and stay moist in the fridge.

Serve the turkey burgers with my Autumn broccoli slaw!

FAQ’s

Can I use sweet or spicy Italian sausage in this recipe?

Yes! Both work well. Sweet sausage gives a mild flavor, while spicy adds a little kick. Choose what suits your taste.

Can I make these turkey burgers ahead of time?

Absolutely. Mix and shape the patties in the morning, then refrigerate until ready to cook. They also reheat well!

Can I freeze the burger patties?

Yes! Freeze uncooked patties between layers of parchment paper in an airtight container or bag for up to 3 months.

Whatโ€™s the best way to cook them โ€” grill, pan, or oven?

Theyโ€™re excellent on all three. Grill or pan-fry for a crispy sear, or bake for hands-off cooking.

Do I need to add any seasoning to the burgers?

No. The sausage adds all the seasoning and moisture needed. Thatโ€™s the beauty of the 2-ingredient trick!

The burgers go great with the strawberry almond salad! They make for a great summer combination for a picnic or family party.
